To blog or not to blog, that is NOT the question. Not in my case at least. The question is why am I blogging and why do you want to read it? YOU are probably an acquaintance of mine and will read this out of curiosity or *gasp* perhaps you feel obligated? But who the heck do I think I am anyway? And why would I think that you'll want to follow my blog? *Deep sigh* So many questions.
Let's start with the basics; what is a blog? At it's core a blog is simply a means for humans to connect to each other in an otherwise disconnected world. A world where we are technologically isolated from experiencing actual face-to-face connections. We want to know that someone's out there listening to us even if we can't see them. We want to feel like we're part of a whole.
All of us have a mode of communication that we feel most comfortable with. I thoroughly enjoy, and once in a great while loathe, writing. By no means do I think that I'm an amazing wordsmith and that my breathtaking turn of a phrase will leave you passionately weeping and jumping for sheer joy. My one desire is that you'll walk away thinking about...something. Any one thing. That's it. Pretty simple.
What? That didn't rock your world? Of course I have my other somewhat self indulgent reasons. There are a few big ideas that I'm very passionate about and by sharing my perspective I hope to encourage an open and honest idea exchange. And maybe, just maybe, influence some otherwise ingrained beliefs or at the very least move the boundary just a bit. And then there's the other stuff. The too much inside spilling over and needing sorting out from time to time.
And for the record, I refuse to be a daily blogger despite popular opinion and protocol. You don't need to know what I ate for dinner last night or how I bumped into a gorgeous guy at Olive & Ivy this morning and should've said 'hi' instead of saying 'oh crap' and spilling coffee on myself. Yeah, that happened. But I will post when something hits me just right and I think it's worth sharing.
In the immortal words of Monty Python, “I don't think there's a punch-line scheduled, is there?”
